From Contemporary to Glam

Hi loves!! so before I start I want to apologize from being MIA. So all this time I wasn’t posting, I was working in some house projects, we being remodeling the bathroom (i will be blogging about it in future post) and decorating the bedroom. Just that as you might know I’m a stay at home mom so every project I want to do takes me a little longer because I have to do it in a budget.

So this is how our bedroom looked… our walls where a beige and I painted them this light blue color.

This bed my mom got it from a lady that was selling it for $50 and it came with the night stands, we had it for the past 6 years (when I was pregnant of my first daughter) but I’m only 5 ft. tall and this bed was so high it made me dislike it even more every postpartum. So i put it for sale online and sold it for $450.00 just the bed, I kept the night stands.

So now that we had the bed, I had to do something to the night stands, to make them look a bit more modern…

…yes I chalk paint them

LiViNG ROOM UPDATE.

…So ever since we updated our home floors from carpet to tile… I being kind of wondering how could I give my ottoman an update too. Long story short, while they were working in changing our floor I convince my husband to help me repurpose a dark brown dresser I had behind my sofa to a new TV console.

This is how my living room looked before (this pictures is from our first Christmas in this house)

The TV was on top of a console that came with the sofa when we bought it, but since we have high ceilings I always thought it look to small on that tall wall, so we updated the brown dresser, we painted it  with chalk paint and change the knobs.

I always wanted to decorate my living room with a beach house feel, and all that brown I had wasn’t doing the job, so adding touches of blue, took me where I believe made the perfect touch.

…now that I had the TV wall how I wanted, I knew for sure I had to update my ottoman.

so we added some color to it…

and by adding a rug gave the room a cozy touch. (now all I have left to do is change the pillows, I will post pictures whenever I do so.)

TODDLER AND BABY SHARED BEDROOM!

When I found out I was having another girl, I started to look on Pinterest (I love Pinterest) for shared bedroom decor, and although I found a lot of cute rooms, nothing was exactly what I wanted. I still have a few things I want to add, but I decided why not share where I have gotten so far.

The room was build by my wonderful husband… we used the garage space and the entrance is thru our room, they will stay in this room until they are ready to move to the bedrooms upstairs, and then I will used the room as my walk-in closet.

We choosed a pink with a touch of purple color, that is very light.

… and the vanity, I just love it, I try to keep it settle so the room doesn’t look to crowded, since is a very small room. We bought the bed and the vanity in Rooms to go (I felt in love with the cinderella carriage).

In this wall I want to do a wall gallery with pictures of my daughters and drawing of them also. So far I just have both of them feet print and that flower that my older did in school.

This is how it looks so far, the crib I got it at Walmart and is a 3 in 1, came with the mattress included and was very inexpensive.

Hope you get some ideas from this blog, I will post more pictures of the bedroom when is completely done, have a great day. God Bless You.

Fall Decor DYI

Oh how much I love Fall!!!  When those lovely (sometimes too hot) summer days are over and Fall arrives all I can think about is, Thanksgiving is around the corner! and although here in Texas is doesn’t really feels like falls I have decided to make my house look like fall on the inside.

2015-10-13_08.18.57-2

So the other day I stopped by the dollar store, which is my daughter’s favorite store, and they had a variation of Fall decor, so I decide to do some simple and easy DIYs to make my house a bit more cozy.

This is what I bought, spent less than $15.

So I mentioned before, I bought everything at the dollar store, even the autumn leaves, make sure the vase is clean, and all you have to do is apply a thin later of mod podge in a small section of the vase (I used my fingers, but you can use a sponge too) once that layer becomes quite sticky, place leaf on the vase. Paint more mod podge on top of the leaf, make sure to smooth out the edges.  when you are done putting all the leaves in the vase let it dry for a few hours, and then place the fake flowers in it (or if you wants to use real ones).

I also did this vase and place a tealight candle inside (you can used those battery operated flickering candles)

TIPS:

  • Don’t be scare to apply a lot of mod podge on top of the leaf eventually it will dry clear.
  • Don’t try to get too perfect with laying the leaves down, leaves by nature have imperfections and it looks more rustic when all the corners are not completely flush against the vase.

Homemade Cuban Style Flan

2015-10-10_10.22.23

After seeing quite a few Flan recipes online, I decided to share mine, which is quite easy to make and delicious… I had to make a paused and go serve myself some… Flan is very popular custard in South and Central America and the Caribbean, every country has their own variation on how to prepare flan. Although every flan recipe will vary depending on country, at the end they all taste delicious. One cannot resist a dessert like this one!!!

2015-10-10_02.08.22  2015-10-10_01.56.07  2015-10-10_02.11.21

Ingredients:

2 cans of sweetened condensed milk

2 cans of evaporated milk

6 eggs

1 tbs vanilla extract

a pintch of salt

For the caramel all you need is 1 cup of sugar and a little bit of water.

Directions:

Turn the oven to 350 degrees

The first thing I always prep is the caramel, now the number one rule when you make the caramel you can swirl but you must never stir because it will crystalized the sugar and make it hard (I have done it over and over) I add the sugar and the water in a pan in medium heat, this will take about 10 mins (now this is not the time where you get your phone and start texting, lol) you must be paying attention to your caramel, it will turn from a clear to a golden color… to an amber color which is a really deep golden color and thats the color we are looking for. Once you got that color pour it in the baking pan.

Now for the easiest part… the flan mixture… just pour the rest of the ingredients in the blender, if your blender is not that big you might want to blend one half first and then the other, when you are done, pour the mixture in the baking pan (that we caramelized earlier). Now cover it with aluminum foil and you will be bath baking it. Put it in the oven and this can take from 1 hour to 1:30 hours. To check if is already done I poke it with a knife, and if it comes out clean its ready if not leave it a little longer, when is done take it out of the oven and let it cool. take a knife and run it right around the edges, just to loosen it up, put a plate on top of it, and flip it upside down.
