Homemade Cuban Style Flan

After seeing quite a few Flan recipes online, I decided to share mine, which is quite easy to make and delicious… I had to make a paused and go serve myself some… Flan is very popular custard in South and Central America and the Caribbean, every country has their own variation on how to prepare flan. Although every flan recipe will vary depending on country, at the end they all taste delicious. One cannot resist a dessert like this one!!!

2 cans of sweetened condensed milk

2 cans of evaporated milk

6 eggs

1 tbs vanilla extract

a pintch of salt

For the caramel all you need is 1 cup of sugar and a little bit of water.

Turn the oven to 350 degrees

The first thing I always prep is the caramel, now the number one rule when you make the caramel you can swirl but you must never stir because it will crystalized the sugar and make it hard (I have done it over and over) I add the sugar and the water in a pan in medium heat, this will take about 10 mins (now this is not the time where you get your phone and start texting, lol) you must be paying attention to your caramel, it will turn from a clear to a golden color… to an amber color which is a really deep golden color and thats the color we are looking for. Once you got that color pour it in the baking pan.

Now for the easiest part… the flan mixture… just pour the rest of the ingredients in the blender, if your blender is not that big you might want to blend one half first and then the other, when you are done, pour the mixture in the baking pan (that we caramelized earlier). Now cover it with aluminum foil and you will be bath baking it. Put it in the oven and this can take from 1 hour to 1:30 hours. To check if is already done I poke it with a knife, and if it comes out clean its ready if not leave it a little longer, when is done take it out of the oven and let it cool. take a knife and run it right around the edges, just to loosen it up, put a plate on top of it, and flip it upside down.
